The British Columbia Council of Administrative Tribunals ("BCCAT") was incorporated in 1996 as a non-profit organization. Its membership is comprised primarily of tribunal members, lawyers, and staff of administrative tribunals of British Columbia. BCCAT's mission is to foster improvements in the administrative justice system in the Province. A Board of Directors administers BCCAT.

In September 2008 BCCAT produced a comprehensive manual for adjudicators. This manual will also be useful for organizations which advise parties appearing before tribunals. Topics include: conducting hearings and providing decisions, including conduct of adjudicators, the hearing process, admitting evidence, questioning witnesses, collaborating with other tribunal members and striving for consistent and quality decisions. The cost of the manual is $20.00 (inc. shipping & handling) plus GST. Order by clicking here.

BCCAT has developed and established "must have" educational programs for practioners in the field of administrative justice. Our courses are approved for listing as continuing education for members of the bar in completing their Annual Report to the Law Society of BC. Our annual conference provides members of the administrative justice community an opportunity to discuss judicial trends, emerging issues, and new legislation.

Our semi-annual newsletter also provides our membership with updates on recent activities in the field of administrative justice. BCCAT also has several committees and members are encouraged to volunteer to work on them.

Please visit the membership section of our site for details on the benefits of being a member of BCCAT as well as information on how to become a member or renew your membership.
